Modern Art Deco Wedding | The Astorian | Houston, Tx

Katie and Nate's wedding was not just an event; it was a celebration of love, inspired by the allure of Art Deco and the timeless elegance of The Great Gatsby, all spun into a contemporary masterpiece. Their dream setting? The Astorian, a venue echoing elegance and modern industrial charm (The Astorian). This choice set the stage for a wedding brimming with style and personality.

Our couple had a distinct vision: a harmonious blend of champagne, black, and emerald, enveloping their guests in an atmosphere of sophisticated charm. This vision came to life with every detail, from the stunning Art Deco-themed invitations by Lele Lines (Lele Lines) to the luxurious, dark gray velvet draping from Decor By Dulce (Decor By Dulce), which added a layer of cozy intimacy to the ceremony space.

To enhance the ambiance, we introduced elegant white and gold "trees" that framed the couple during their vows and later adorned the head table. The addition of a grand piano, accompanied by a talented pianist, filled the ceremony and cocktail hour with melodious charm, setting the mood for an unforgettable evening.

The layout was designed with elegance and interaction in mind. A central lounge area, a discreet champagne bar, and spacious zones for the cocktail hour and dinner encouraged guests to mingle and celebrate.

Originally, the couple wanted a black and white checkered dance floor by (Mikes Dance Floor Rentals). However, as it was a popular trend, we proposed something a little different. Keeping the black and white but going with a large geometric pattern to tie in with the art deco vibes of the venue and stand out.

For a clean, glam look we chose all white flowers by (US!) with pops of taupe.  Elevated on tall stands or placed in glam mirrored boxes. We also used LOTS of different styles of lighting to bring attention to different elements in the room. Pin lights adorned all the tall arrangements including one on top of the banquet. Uplights illuminated the trees, while pin lights were strategically placed on the champagne tower. Our favorite touch?  The STUNNING edison bulb light installation behind the cake created by (Cakes By Gina), which was positioned on a chic glass and gold table.

The couple, along with their parents, wanted a formal plated dinner complete with wine service at each table.  Guests got to pick between a savory short rib with a red wine sauce or a light sea bass paired with a lemon beurre blanc by (Jackson and Company Catering). To enhance the dining experience, the catering was paired with sophisticated green and gold patterned linens, soft green velvet napkins, and custom menu cards cut to resemble delicate gold lace.

To personalize their day, details reflecting their lives were incorporated. For instance, Katie's love for French fries, mini chicken and waffles, and donuts became a late-night snack served in black paper cones for a touch of class. A bar menu featuring pictures of the couple’s dogs was created, and little stir sticks with the dogs' faces were placed in the signature cocktails. The head bartender even assisted the couple in developing custom signature cocktails named after their fur babies, Ziggy and Maya.

ZiggyTonic - Gin and Tonic: Gin | Tonic | Grapefruit Juice | Peppercorns | Dehydrated orange garnish

Maya Tai - Mai Tai: White Rum | Dark Rum | Pineapple Juice | Lime Juice | Orgeat Almond Syrup | Dry Curacao | Mint Garnish

As guest favors, single-serve jars of cold coffee made by their friend’s small coffee company were offered. To add a touch of Gatsby vibes, a vintage Rolls Royce served as the perfect getaway car, bringing their wedding to a close with elegance and nostalgia.
